6. Phil Kessel

College: University of Minnesota

Kessel is another member of the one-and-done club.  In his one year as a Golden Gopher, Kessel averaged a point a game (51 games) and was named the WCHA Rookie of the Year.  His play was convincing enough to get him drafted  5th overall by the Boston Bruins in 2006.  Since then he’s landed in Toronto, where he’s been perhaps the only good thing to happen in that organization in the last ten years.  He’s made 2 Olympic teams as well as 3 World Championship teams, and is a 2-time All-Star.  Kessel’s talent should not be a surprise to those familiar with the family; his sister Amanda is a fellow US international and Gopher while his brother Blake is currently a defender on the Islanders.
