The 2003 NHL Draft was one of the top drafts ever held, likely after the 1979 NHL Draft. Each first-round pick ended up playing in a regular season game. The draft saw 26 players go on to be NHL All-Stars. 6 draftees went on to captain an NHL team.

In this re-draft, I’ve reverted all the draft picks to their original owners. It’s been a long time since the draft, so maybe some teams would like to rethink their decisions.

1. Florida Panthers

1. player. 87. It’s hard to ignore everything Getzlaf has accomplished. He’s been a big part of all the teams he has suited up for. He is the head of this draft class.. Center. Calgary Hitmen (WHL). Ryan Getzlaf

2. Carolina Hurricanes

109. The Canes swap out their captain for Bergeron. He’s been an incredible two-way player who hasn’t slowed down much.. Center. Acadie-Bathurst Titan (QMJHL). Patrice Bergeron. 2. player

3. Pittsburgh Penguins

3. player. 92. The Pens can’t turn down a future number one defenseman. Maybe in Pittsburgh he would have won a Norris Trophy.. Defense. Kelowna Rockets (WHL). Shea Weber

4. Columbus Blue Jackets

5. Buffalo Sabres

12. He was the league MVP in 2011. Powerforward and goal scoring machine.. Right Wing. London Knights (OHL). Corey Perry. 5. player
