The New Jersey Devils announced on Monday the team has signed Czech Republic native Vojtech Mozik to an entry-level contract. The defenseman was a 22-year-old free agent.
Mozik spent the past season with HC Plzen out of the Czech league where he had an impressive 10 goals and 19 assists in 51 games with the club. Mozik also has played with the Czech Republic international team.
It was rumored that the New York Rangers were showing interest in the defenseman. Mozik had been to the Rangers’ prospect camp twice before and according to Alex Nunn, the team was prepared to offer him a two-way deal.
Mozik is 6’2″, but shows offensive upside with a powerful shot, quick hands and a quick mind. Mozik will most likely join the Albany Devils of the AHL and possibly be called up if there is positive production from him.
