Round One of QMJHL Draft Complete

The 1st round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Draft has been completed. On Friday, the day before the draft, Joey Veleno was granted exceptional status and could be selected during this year’s draft.

Here is how the first round went down on Saturday:

Saint John Sea Dogs select Joey Veleno (F)

Acadie-Bathurst Titan select Antoine Morand (F)

Morland is a skater who played for AAA Châteauguay. Morland is a 1999 birth year.

Victoriaville Tigres select Maxime Comtois (F)

Comtois also played with AAA Châteauguay.

Cape Breton Screaming Eagles select Shane Bowers (F)

Bowers is N.A born. He played for AAA Halifax. Bowers also has been drafted in the USHL by the Waterloo Blak Hawks. The Hockey News’ Ryan Kennedy has reported that Bowers will not be going to the Screaming Eagles.

Val-d’Or Foreurs select Dereck Baribeau (G)

Baribeau last played for AAA St-Francois. He is the first goalie taken in the QMJHL Draft this year.

Cape Breton Screaming Eagles select Peyton Hoyt (F)

Hoyt last played for AAA Fredericton. 29 goals in 30 games in his latest season.

Halifax Mooseheads select Arnaud Durandeau (F)

Durandeau played AAA for Lac St-Louis.

Rouyn-Noranda Huskies select Louis-Filip Côté

Louis-Filip Côté played AAA hockey for Lévis Commandeurs.

Saint John Sea Dogs select Alex D’Orio (G)

D’Orio is the second goalie taken in the first round. Played AAA with Magog

Saint John Sea Dogs select Cedric Pare (F)

Paré played AAA in Lévis .

Blainville-Boisbriand Armada select Antoine Crete-Belzile (D)

Antoine Crete-Belzile was the first defenseman taken in the draft. He previously played for AAA St-Francois.

Blainville-Boisbriand Armada select Joel Teasdale (F)

Teasdale played AAA for Antoine-Girouard.

Charlottetown Islanders select Shawn Boudrias (F)

Boudrias played AAA for Esther-Blondin.

Shawinigan Cataractes select Jocktan Chainey (D) 

Chainey played AAA for Trois-Rivières. He is the 2nd defenseman taken in the draft and also has the coolest name. (C’mon Jocktan is one of the best names I’ve ever seen).

Rimouski Océanic select Alex-Olivier Voyer (F)

Voyer played AAA for Magog.

Chicoutimi Saguenéens select Alexander Krief (D)

Krief is the 3rd defenseman taken in the first round. Krief also goes by the last name Krief-Fleming. Krief played AAA for Lac St-Louis.

Chicoutimi Saguenéens select Jeremy Groleau (D)

Groleau is the 4th defenseman taken in the QMJHL Draft, and the second defenseman taken by Chicoutimi. Jeremy played AAA for Lévis.

Drummondville Voltigeurs select William Poirier (F)

Poirier played AAA for Châteauguay.

Chicoutimi Saguenées select Keenan MacIssac (D)

The final pick in the 1st round went to the Saguenéens, who took their 3rd defenseman of the draft Keenan MacIssac. MacIssac played in High School for Rothesay Netherwood before coming to the QMJHL.
