St. John’s IceCaps Reveal New Logo
The St. John’s IceCaps revealed their new logo Thursday afternoon as they take their first steps after becoming the Montreal Canadiens’ new AHL affiliate.
The new IceCaps logo stays true to the previous version and adopts the traditional red, white and blue color scheme of their NHL partner while keeping the original crest unchanged.
More from AHL
- Islanders Acquire Finn, Verhaeghe, Nilsson, Gibson from Maple Leafs
- Portland Pirates Redesign Jerseys
- Albany Devils Name New General Manager
- Brandon Gormley Traded to Colorado Avalanche
- Condors and Heat to Faceoff in Outdoor Game
At the press conference it was also noted the jerseys were not revealed due to demand and that they will be released later this summer. Hopefully the franchise decides to completely transform their look by also adopting Montreal’s storied jersey template, which is one of the best in the NHL.
With prospects in the Montreal Canadiens system such as Michael McCarron, Nikita Scherbak and Charles Hudon, there is understandably a lot to look forward to in the next couple of years for IceCaps fans. This move to St. John’s should really increase the exposure of the IceCaps brand.
The city of St. John’s is now split with those who are big Montreal Canadiens fans and those who are at the opposite end of the spectrum. Since the IceCaps have switched affiliates from Winnipeg to Montreal, they are also moving into the North Division in the Eastern Conference of the AHL. This puts the IceCaps in a much better situation as the teams in their division are much closer in proximity, so there is less of a burden with regards to travel.
This move will see rival teams such as the Toronto Marlies and the Providence Bruins travel to St. John’s to play much more frequently. Therefore it’s a bonus for any Boston or Toronto fans in the city as they will be able to watch their favorite prospects at Mile One Centre.
The AHL season does not begin until October 2015 but I can guarantee that fans in St. John’s cannot wait.
