Christoph Bertschy has been signed to an entry-level contract by the Minnesota Wild. Bertschy’s club in the Swiss NLA, SC Bern, released a statement Tuesday morning that the 21-year-old will be leaving the team for his NHL club.

The Minnesota Wild drafted Bertschy in the 6th round of the 2012 NHL Entry draft and will be playing his first North American games soon. He has had plenty of experience internationally, but the move to the North American game should be a difficult one for him. Bertschy is a small center at 5’10” and 185 lbs and may be pushed around a lot.

Bertschy is a heavily offensive minded player who uses his speed and shot to leave his mark on the ice. He is exceptional when breaking out into the zone but once he is forced in and in a position to make plays with his teammates and hands, he struggles. He is a do-it-yourself player but doesn’t have all the tools a DIY player needs in order to be successful.

Bertschy spent three years with his Swiss club and had his best year this season. He finished the year with 14 goals and 16 assists in 44 games.

Elite Prospects scout Ulf Andersson had this to say about Bertschy in 2013,

"“Bertschy is a speedy center with good vision and a hard shot. Could improve his stickhandling skills. Lacks size. Can appear selfish at times.”"
