Adirondack Thunder the Likely Name for New ECHL Team

With several American Hockey League teams moving to the west coast, there are now some openings for other hockey leagues to take over major markets. We already know that the Manchester Monarchs will convert to the ECHL, and now it seems like another team will too.

The Adirondack Flames are moving to Stockton where they will be the Calgary Flames affiliate. An ECHL team owned by the Flames will now take over Glens Falls, New York, and the new team will be announced tonight.

All signs point to the team being named the Adirondack Thunder. The Flames have apparently trademarked the team name and registered the domain name “echlthunder.com”

This makes sense in some ways as well because there is a Stockton ECHL team called the Stockton Thunder, and they are essentially being replaced by the Stockton AHL team, which could end up being called the Stockton Flames as well.
