Antoine Bibeau Recalled from Marlies
The Toronto Maple Leafs made news today when they recalled Toronto Marlies goaltender Antoine Bibeau. The move is interesting because they also carry James Reimer and Jonathan Bernier on the roster, making it so they currently have three goalies.
To make room for Bibeau, the team placed defenseman Dion Phaneuf on injured reserve.
One report has indicated that Bernier is out with an illness, and that’s why the team has recalled Bibeau. Reimer is getting the start against the Edmonton Oilers tonight either way.
The Marlies are playing against the Iowa Wild tonight where Bibeau would have gotten the start. Instead, he serves as the backup tonight for the Leafs. In 20 games this season, Bibeau, who is Toronto’s best goalie prospect, has a goals against average of 2.58. He is also 8-7-5 on the year with a .917 save percentage.
The 20 year old was a sixth round pick in 2013 and is yet to make his NHL debut. If Bernier remains out for longer than just tonight, he could see some time soon.
