1. Jonathan Toews

College: University of North Dakota

Toews, like Parise, followed the Shattuck-St. Mary’s to North Dakota path.  Since then, the young Canadian has had unparalleled success.  In just his 2nd year in the league, he was given the captaincy.  He’s won 2 gold medals as well as 2 Stanley Cups, and has singlehandedly revived the Chicago Blackhawks organization, a team that a mere 10 years ago were drawing south of 10,000 people.   Along with being the Hawks’ lifeline for the entirety of his career, a good argument can be made for him being Canada’s 2nd best active hockey player behind Sidney Crosby himself.  At North Dakota, Toews led the Sioux to two back-to-back appearances in the Frozen Four, the perfect start to a perfect career.  Not bad, Captain.  Not bad at all.
