Springfield Falcons name Toby Petersen assistant coach

The Springfield Falcons, the Columbus Blue-Jacket’s affiliate of the AHL, have named former player Toby Petersen as their new head coach. Petersen, who just hung up the skates following a 14-year career last month, won the Calder Cup with the Texas Stars this season, playing a total of 71 Calder Cup Playoff games in his career.

Petersen played for several teams throughout his career, including the Texas Stars, the Iowa Stars, the Edmonton Road Runners, and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He tallied a total of 149 goals and 226 assists for 374 points in 550 AHL games.

Petersen also saw NHL action in 398 games, scoring 33 goals and tallying 48 assists.

The 35 year old Colorado College alumni also took part in the 2007 IIHF World Championships for the United States, and won silver in the 1997 World Junior Championships.
