Emile Poirier was the Flames first round pick in 2013 and is already playing with the Flames AHL team. He’s a speedy forward who needs another year or two of seasoning and could see time with Team Canada at the World Juniors in 2014. He’s played with the Gatineau Olympiques the past three seasons where he has improved each year including a 87 point year this past season. Discipline is a slight issue for Poirier who racked up 127 penalty minutes this past year. He has helped lead the Olympiques into the postseason for the last three years and may get a crack at the memorial cup when the Olympiques host the tournament.

He is currently on a amateur contract with the Abbotsford Heat where he recorded 4 points in his first two games with the Heat. He’s poised for a playoff run with the Heat and is one of the most underrated picks from the 2013 draft, quite a steal for the Flames.
