The playoffs for the Rochester Americans almost didn’t happen after losing both goaltenders and many key offencive weapons to the Buffalo Sabres as the NHL season wound down. However, the Sabres ended just in time and many players are back with the Amerks in time for the post season. The Amerks have tremendous offence from the likes of Mikhail Grigorenko, Luke Adam and Phil Varone, while they get solid defence from Chad Ruhwedel, Rasmus Ristolainen and Mark Pysyk. One of the good things for the Amerks is that the majority of their team, especially the defence, has solid NHL experience. At times this year the Sabres looked like the Amerks. The Amerks finished second last in the West, however much like the Barons have missed most of their team this season.

The Wolves on the other hand captured the Midwest division title with their impressive season and finished second in the West. Goaltender Jake Allen has been big for the Wolves. The Wolves haven’t been the best offencive team and match-up well against the Amerks aside from goaltending. Ty Rattie is one of their best offencive weapons leading the team with 48 points in his rookie year. If their is a team that could be poised for an upset it’s the Wolves. If their offence doesn’t match-up, Jake Allen could be left out to dry.
