OHL Playoffs: Generals vs. IceDogs, Round 1

Twelve wins and 24 points separate the Oshawa Generals and Niagara IceDogs as they prepare to face each other in round one of the OHL playoffs, with the series kicking off on March 22.

SERIES C: OSHAWA VS. NIAGARA

• Series begins Friday, March 22, 7:00 p.m. in Oshawa.

How the teams stack up:

Oshawa (42-22-1-3, 88 points — 235 GF, 192 GA)

  • Top Scorer: Boone Jenner (C), 45G, 37A, 82 points
  • Jenner also led the team with 12 power play goals on the season, while defenseman Geoffrey Schemitsch led the Generals with a pair of shorthanded goals.
  • Other players to watch include center Scott Laughton, who had 56 points in 49 games, and right wing Tyler Biggs, who had 53 points (26-27) in 60 games. Right winger Scott Sabourin led the Generals with 142 penalty minutes.
  • Oshawa is coming off a pair of wins to end the regular season; first, a 6-5 victory over Ottawa, followed by a 3-2 win over Sudbury to close the year on March 17.

Niagara (30-34-2-2, 64 points — 227 GF, 250 GA)

  • Top Scorer: Ryan Strome (C), 34G, 60A, 94 points
  • Other players to watch include right winger Brett Ritchie, who had 76 points (41-35) in 53 regular season games, and left winger Steven Shipley, who had 67 points in 66 games.
  • Jesse Graham leads IceDogs defensemen (aside from Dougie Hamilton, now with the NHL’s Boston Bruins) with 39 points in 68 games.
  • Right winger Mack Lemmon leads Niagara with 136 penalty minutes this season, including 115 in 52 games with the IceDogs.
  • Niagara lost its last four games, dropping decisions to Barrie (6-5), Brampton (5-2), Sudbury (5-1) and Barrie (3-2).

The Season Series

The Generals won both meetings between the teams this season, starting with a 3-1 win over Niagara on November 25 in Oshawa. The team followed this up with a 4-2 win in Niagara on February 9. Tyler Biggs had four points (3-1) for Oshawa in the season series, while Scott Laughton had a goal and three assists. Ryan Strome had two points for Niagara in the season series.
