OHL Playoffs: Colts vs. Frontenacs, Round 1

Thirty-two points separated the Barrie Colts and the Kingston Frontenacs as the OHL regular season came to a close on March 17. Now, the teams prepare to face each other in round one of the OHL playoffs beginning March 21.

SERIES B: BARRIE VS. KINGSTON

• Series begins Thursday, March 21, 7:30 p.m. in Barrie.

How the teams stack up:

Barrie (44-20-2-2, 92 points — 245 GF, 185 GA)

  • Top Scorer: Zach Hall (C), 24G, 57A, 81 points
  • Anthony Camara led the Colts with 15 power play goals, while Mark Scheifele had 14. Ryan O’Connor had 13, and Hall had 12. In total, the Colts scored 81 power play goals during the regular season.
  • Other players to watch include right wing Steven Beyers, who had 69 points in 66 games, and defenseman Ryan O’Connor, who had 53 points in 64 games.
  • The Colts ended the season with a pair of losses to Brampton and Niagara, with the team’s last win coming over Kingston on March 14.

Kingston (27-35-3-3, 60 points — 217 GF, 273 GA)

  • Top Scorer: Henri Ikonen (LW), 22G, 29A, 51 pts
  • Eighteen players had at least one power play goal this season.
  • Other players to watch include defenseman Ryan Hutchinson, who led the team with 106 penalty minutes, and center Ryan Kujawinski, who had 48 points (17-31) in 66 games. Center Darcy Greenaway had 44 points in 65 games, and rookie Spencer Watson had 43 points.
  • Kingston won its final game of the season, a 5-1 win over Ottawa on March 17.

The Season Series

Kingston won the first meeting of the season, a 3-1 victory at home on September 21. The Colts, however, won the last three meetings, beginning with a 6-2 win on December 8 in Barrie. They also took a 3-2 decision on February 1 in Kingston and a 4-2 win at home on March 14.
