Tonight the Providence Bruins and St. John’s IceCaps faced off for a re-match after Providence beat the IceCaps 3-2 in a shootout. Unfortunately for Providence, that is where the luck ended as the IceCaps shut them out 6-0 sending the Bruins home with 2 of a possible 4 points from the weekend.

The Bruins carried over the momentum from last night’s game, instilling hard fore-checking which created turnovers and key opportunities.  The best coming from David Warsofsky which Eddie Pasquale made a killer save against. Unfortunately, penalties would be the death of the Bruins as two delay of game penalties allowed Derek Meech to beat Svedberg with a wrist shot on the man advantage.  They had a couple of opportunities of their own, but were unable to capitalize and went into the first intermission trailing 1-0.

In the second period the Bruins had a great 5-on-3 opportunity, but Pasquale brought his A game as he blocked each and every opportunity that was presented in front of him.  Just after the halfway point Derek Whitmore was able to put yet another shot past Svedberg to give the IceCaps a two-goal lead.  The Bruins had two breakaway opportunities, one coming from Chris Bourque, but neither one made it past Pasquale and once again the Bruins headed into intermission behind.

While Bruins fans would expect to see thier team come out and utterly dominate the third period and come from behind to win the game, sadly that wasn’t the case.  In fact, the IceCaps were quite serious about getting revenge as they went on to score four more goals; Klinberg, Macenauer, Albert and Postma contributing.

Eddie Pasquale stopped all 40 of Providence’s shots while Svedberg suffered to save 31 of the 37 shots he faced.  The next game for the Bruins is Friday at the Dunk against the Connecticut Whale at 7:05PM ET.
