Binnington Named OHL Player of the Week

Jordan Binnington became the first goaltender to be given player of the week awards for the Ontario Hockey League, as he was recently given the honor for the week ending November 18.

The 19-year-old had a busy week, as he represented Team OHL in the second league game of the Subway Super Series on November 12, a 2-1 win for the OHL over Russia.

Binnington split goaltending duties that game with Jake Paterson. He played just over 30 minutes and stopped all eight shots faced as the Ontario Hockey League team won the second of two games between the teams.

When the Attack returned to action on Friday, Binnington had 25 saves as Owen Sound dropped a 5-2 decision to the London Knights.

After starting off the weekend with a loss, Binnington and the Attack would come back for consecutive wins to finish the three-in-three stretch with a 2-1-0-0 record. It began on Saturday, as Kitchener visited Owen Sound for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.

Binnington would get his first of consecutive shutouts en route to a 4-0 win over the Rangers. He stopped 35 shots and had two pemalty minutes in the win. Saturday’s win was the 66th of his career for the Attack, placing him first on the all-time franchise win list.

The weekend would end win a 1-0 shutout win for Binnington and the Attack. He stopped all 26 shots faced and had another two penalty minutes as Owen Sound defeated the Spitfires in the afternoon matchup, and Binnington was named first star of the game.

This is his fourth season in the OHL and his fourth year with the Attack. The Gravenhurst native, a St. Louis Blues prospect selected in 2011, holds a 2.18 GAA and a .932 save percentage.

Binnington and the Attack next face off on Wednesday, when they host the Barrie Colts at 7 p.m.
