It was announced today that Alexandre Bolduc, former ECHL player and current Portland Pirates captain is the MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for October.  The award is given to a player who has previously played in the ECHL and has gone on to succeed in the AHL and NHL throughout their career.

Through the month of October the Portland Pirates played seven games in which Bolduc posted 11 points with 6 goals and 5 assists.  He ended the month with a 6-game scoring streak, four consecutive games with multiple points posted.  He is currently tied for third in the American Hockey League for scoring.

During his first season with the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL) he was moved up to the AHL to play for the Manitoba Moose where he had a strong 37-point season and was signed by the Vancouver Canucks in 2008. The following season he posted 18 goals and 17 assists for the Canucks and debuted in his first NHL game on November 27, 2008 to replace an injured Ryan Johnson against the Calgary Flames.  He scored his first NHL goal against Craig Anderson of the Colorado Avalanche on January 2, 2011.

Bolduc has played in 48 NHL games to date and has managed to post 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points.  With the NHL being locked out and the way Bolduc is beginning this season, there is no doubt we will be hearing a lot of him this season. With his team-high 11 points and team-high 6-goals he is definitely filling the captain shoes perfectly.

"“Alex has been our rock throughout the first seven games,” Pirates Head Coach Ray Edwards said Monday. “He’s had an impact in every game. I don’t think there’s one game where he didn’t touch the game in some way. When he’s not scoring goals he’s playing hard and killing penalties and doing all the little things. We gave him the captaincy and he’s played like a captain in every game.” (via Phoenix Coyotes official site)"
