Brampton Battalion defenseman Marcus McIvor has played 131 games with the league up to this point in his career. His first two seasons were nearly identical in production terms – one goal and 13 assists in 62 and 64 games. Now, the Whitby native is in his third season in the Ontario Hockey League and continues his career as a member of the troops.

McIvor, 18, was selected ninth overall by the Battalion in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. Prior to that, he played with the Whitby Wildcats of the OMHA.

He’s also participated in the World Under-17 Challenge, representing Ontario in 2011 and winning the championship that year.

His rookie season saw him land one goal and 13 assists in 62 regular season games. He ended the season a minus-6 and with 29 penalty minutes before playing in four playoff games for the Battalion.

Last season, he was one of Brampton’s top defensive defensemen but struggled to increase his offensive production, again scoring one goal and 13 assists in 64 games. Thirty-five penalty minutes and a plus-one rating would top off the regular season before he’d add two goals and an assist in eight playoff games.

This past July, Marcus was invited to the development camp of the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings.

Hockey also runs in McIvor’s family – his older brother Quincy was claimed by Barrie in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection.

McIvor and his Battalion face off against the Windsor Spitfires tonight in a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
