Twenty-eight of the 30 teams in the American Hockey League will be in action tonight, opening a weekend filled with 34 games leaguewide.

The only teams not in action tonight are the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Lake Erie Monsters, affiliates of the NHL’s New York Islanders and Colorado Avalanche, respectively.

The Phantoms will face off against the Ice Caps, while interstate rivals Syracuse and Albany matchup tonight. Providence will face the Monarchs, while the Pirates will play in Lewiston, Maine tonight against the Sharks.

Other games on the schedule tonight include the Penguins vs. Falcons and Bears vs. Senators. The Griffins visit Rochester for their first meeting of the season – and Grand Rapids’ first road trip of the year – while Toronto and Hamilton round up the Ontario section of the league. Connecticut and Norfolk, Charlotte and Milwaukee, and San Antonio vs. Oklahoma City are other match-ups on the lineup for tonight.

Interstate rivals Chicago and Peoria, and Houston and Texas, also face each other tonight. Finally, Chicago will face Abbotsford.

In the Eastern Conference, Springfield, Binghamton, Manchester, Bridgeport and Norfolk are all currently undefeated and sit atop the conference with four points each. Just three teams in the Western Conference can claim the undefeated honor – Chicago, Abbotsford and Texas.

The Wolves lead the league with six points and a 3-0 record.

On Saturday, 28 teams will again face-off in 14 games as Grand Rapids and Peoria are the two teams with the night off this time around.

The weekend wraps up with six games on Sunday.
