Domingue Stops ‘Em All
Twenty-year-old Louis Domingue split the goaltending duties for the QMJHL’s Quebec Remparts last season, and the 2010 Phoenix Coyotes draft pick has now completed four full seasons in the Quebec league en route to his future.
Domingue played in 39 games this past season, splitting time with goaltender François Brassard (who played 37 games). Domingue was credited with 23 wins and just 8 losses as he allowed 94 goals against. He played 2,162 minutes and had just over 1,000 saves in the regular season.
As Quebec moved to the playoffs, Domingue played in all eleven of the team’s games, going 7-3-1 in that time. His 2.65 GAA was close to that of the regular season (2.61).
The St-Hyacinthe, Quebec native began his QMJHL career in the 2008-09 season with the Moncton Wildcats after being drafted 13th overall in the CHL Import Draft. In that his first pro season, he saw time in 12 games and won five of those. He’d continue the next season with Moncton, competing in 22 games (11-9) before being traded to the Remparts.
He went on to play in an additional 19 games that season with Quebec, winning nine games before being drafted by the Coyotes in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, 138th overall in the fifth round.
The 2010-11 season was the hardest-working of his career, as Domingue took over the clear spot of the Remparts’ top goaltender. He played an outstanding 57 games and won 37 of them, earning a .898 save percentage and 2.65 GAA in 3,033 minutes.
Finally this year, the goaltending duties for Quebec were split more evenly, and Domingue signed an entry-level contract with the Coyotes in June 2011. It’s expected that he’ll join the Coyotes – or at least the AHL’s Portland Pirates – sometime soon, and combined with fellow 2010 draft pick goaltender Mark Visentin, will provide a nice one-two punch in net in the future.
