Asselin led the team with 75 points in 68 games this year; he also led the team in assists with 42, and was second in goals with 33. He had just 28 penalty minutes during the season, and ended the year with a plus-21 rating in the regular season. As Chicoutimi went on to the playoffs, Asselin scored six goals and 11 assists in 18 games.

His numbers this season are comparable to that of the 2010-11 season, when Asselin had 35 goals and 47 assists in 66 games.

Prior to that, he was a member of the Montréal Juniors for two years. There, he had 37 goals and 42 assists in two seasons (129 games). Since the move to Chicoutimi, his point production has soared.

Despite these impressive numbers, the 19-year-old Quebec native has not been drafted into the NHL, nor has he been signed by any NHL or international teams. Instead, he remains in the QMJHL, where he’ll play another year with Chicoutimi beginning in the fall.

QMJHL fans, keep an eye on this one. He’s sharp as a tack, and all you need to do is look at the numbers to realize how significant a player he is.

Oh – and he’s a defenseman, which only makes those numbers even MORE impressive.
