Zucker, Schwartz Named WJC Captains

Denver Sophomore Jason Zucker, who is spending his 3rd winter break on the United States team at the World Junior Championships, was named captain of the 2012 WJC team by coach Dean Blais and USA Hockey. The Las Vegas native is 7th in the WCHA in points per game and is tied for 9th in goals with 11. He has been at his best in conference play, with 10 goals and 19 points.

Colorado College Sophomore Jaden Schwartz was named captain for Team Canada, which I’m assuming makes it the first year that both the US and Canada have collegians captaining their WJC teams. Schwartz (Wilcox, Sask.) has 4 goals and 16 points in WCHA play, and is 10th nationally in points per game at 1.38.

The United States will go with Jarred Tinordi and Emerson Etem as alternates, while Canada tabbed Brandon Gormley, Brett Connolly, Quinton Howdon and Devante Smith-Pelly.
