Michigan has suspended Sophomore defenseman Jon Merrill for 12 games due to a violation of team rules. Given that 12 games is roughly a third of a season, it obviously is a pretty serious issue, though I have not heard, nor do I want to speculate, what the specific violation was.
It’s worth noting that Merrill was suspended while he was with the NTDP as well, though given the circumstances surrounding that one I certainly hope we don’t have a repeat.
Merrill had 7 goals and 25 points for Michigan last year. He’s a New Jersey draftee, and with one of their better defenseman prospects facing the prospect of missing a big chunk of his Sophomore season, I do wonder if they will swoop in and try to sign Merrill.
