Schmaltz still on college path

Jordan Schmaltz was getting some major interest from the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires after a tremendous year in the USHL, but rather than leave for Canada, he is going to come back for another year of the USHL with Sioux City before heading off to North Dakota like he planned. Schmaltz led all USHL defensemen in scoring, and with him needing another year before being able to go to UND, there was much speculation about him opting for the jump up in competition immediately.
As a Sioux fan I am obviously happy that Schmaltz is sticking with the USHL and UND (and I am happy he is doing that as a fan of college hockey as a whole), but purely objectively I think Schmaltz would be better served going to the OHL for a year or two and then off to the pro ranks. He is so talented that I don’t think his development will stall per se next season, but I’m not so sure dominating the USHL again does a ton for him either.
