Blake Kessel Leaves New Hampshire To Turn Pro
By Fetch
Blake Kessel is leaving UNH a year early to turn pro. The defenseman, who was a 6th round pick in 2007 by the Islanders, was 4th on the team in scoring with 27 points. He also added 5 goals. I named him a first team all Hockey East defenseman, and although he missed my All-American teams, based on pure talent I think he was one of the best defensemen in the country over his career.
Kessel is the second Islanders pick in as many weeks to leave school a year early. North Dakota’s Jason Gregiore did the same, though he is expected to test the free agent market and I doubt he ends up with the Isles.
