Mel Pearson Says Yes To Michigan Tech After All
By Fetch
Almost a month ago, Michigan assistant coach Mel Pearson said no thanks to his alma mater. Now, he has changed his mind. Pearson has been rumored to be the coach in waiting to Red Berenson when he retires, so we will see how that shakes down. His contract with Tech is for 5 years, whereas Red has 2 left on his contract.
On one hand, Pearson could have taken this job because he got no assurances from anyone in the athletic department that he would be the successor at Michigan and decided to go to his alma mater, but it could also be that two years of head coaching experience could help appease some of the higher ups and boosters and those folks. It appears Tech has made a very solid hire with Pearson, but we’ll see how long they keep him.
