Wisconsin’s Murray Signs In Switzerland
By Fetch
As reported by Chuck Schwartz, Wisconsin Junior Jordy Murray is forgoing his Senior year at the school to sign a professional contract in Switzerland. Due to a loophole in the Swedish league, Murray will be eligible to play without being classified as an import because he began his hockey career there. There are rumors this loophole would be closing next year, so Murray would have lost a good amount of money by waiting a year to go pro.
Murray had 18 goals and 8 assists for Wisconsin last year, and will probably make a pretty hefty chunk of change in Europe, both from being a non-import player, but also from being, you know, good at hockey. It’s too bad we can’t see him finish his career at Wisconsin, but it’s the right move for him financially.
