North Dakota Junior Brett Hextall is forgoing his remaining year of eligibility at the school and instead is signing with the Phoenix Coyotes organization. He had 13 goals and 16 assists in 39 games last year for the Sioux, who won the WCHA.
Hextall is a 6th round pick from California, and yes is the son of Ron Hextall.
While I doubt his signing says anything about the uncertainty of the future of the Coyotes franchise, it seems interesting that he would sign now, with no resolution as to what is happening with a potential move to Winnipeg, but Jets fans will likely note that Ron is from Manitoba, which is an interesting twist.
When Hextall plays in the NHL, the Hextalls will be just the second family to have four generations of NHL players.
