Da Costa Signs With Ottawa
By Fetch
After just two years at Merrimack, Stephane Da Costa is leaving to sign a free agent deal with the Ottawa Senators. Da Costa was tied for 3rd on the team in goals and led the Warriors with 45 points. He also led the team in points as a Freshman. He was second in Hockey East in points per game this year, and was fourth as a Freshman.
Last year Da Costa became Merrimack’s first ever national Freshman of the year (and he was mine as well), and he will become the first Warrior to play in the NHL in almost 4 years, as well as becoming just the sixth Frenchman to play in the NHL.
This seems like a good signing for Ottawa who, beyond getting a good player, get a good forward, something their system is lacking a bit. And it gives Da Costa a chance to play in the NHL perhaps a bit sooner than if he signed with another organization.
