Player, Team(s) Of The Week

I haven’t done one of these posts in awhile, but with the season winding down I won’t get to for awhile either, so I’m going to take advantage while I can.

This week I decided to split the team of the week into three parts. First, Michigan, who clinched the regular season CCHA title on Saturday, wresting it away from the grasp of Notre Dame. The Wolverines will also extend the longest current streak of consecutive NCAA tournament performances. Next, out east to ECAC Hockey, where Union won the ECAC regular season championship for the first time in the program’s history. And finally out west where North Dakota clinched a share of the WCHA regular season title and the #1 seed in the playoffs. They can win the regular season title outright next weekend if Denver either ties or loses one of their games, or if they get a point against Michigan Tech.

I’m also going to stay in Grand Forks for the player of the week. After a couple weeks of a  lull in scoring, Matt Frattin is back. The Senior had three goals and an assist in the sweep over Bemidji State – and on Senior weekend no less. Of course, he will get another home series as the Sioux will host Michigan Tech in the first round of the WCHA playoffs. Frattin now is tied for 3rd nationally with 27 goals.
