No More Skills Competition

Friday night at the Frozen Four once held a skills competition similar to the one the day before the NHL All-Star game, but that is no more. Starting this year in St. Paul there will be an open skate. The open skate will feature yet unnamed “notable hockey figures.”

Personally I was a big fan of the Skills Competition, though I only caught a couple. It was fun to see some guys whose careers had ended get one last moment in the spotlight before most of them get swallowed up by minor league hockey. It was also cool to get a look at some D3 players.

For the record, my favorite moment in Skills Competition history was this sweet goal by former Hobey finalist Eric Ehn of Air Force.
