Team, Player of the Week

Welcome to a special airport edition of the team and player of the week! That’s right, I am coming to you live from the Kansas City airport where I will be boarding a flight shortly. In any event, let’s get to this week’s awards…

Team of the week

The team of the week was actually hard to come up with. A lot of the top teams won games, as evidenced by the relative stagnation in my rankings yesterday. But in the end I decided to give it to Boston College. The Eagles shut Maine out 4-0 on Friday and then came back and beat them 4-1 on Sunday. The only thing giving me pause was that they were outshot in both games, but that can likely be partially explained by Maine “chasing the game” if you will. John Muse was excellent both nights, making 70 saves on the 71 shots he faced.

Player of the week

The aforementioned Muse would be a great choice for player of the week, but I look further west. Minnesota’s Mike Hoeffel. On Friday night at Michigan Tech, Hoeffel had two first period goals and later grabbed the primary assist on the game winning goal as Minnesota beat Michigan Tech 6-4. He was back at it on Saturday, scoring two more goals. For the year, Hoeffell has 7 goals and 5 assists in 12 games.
