Team, Player of the Week

I am a day late on this, but hey. Screw School.

Anyways, the team of the week was pretty easy to come up with. Maine welcomed in previous #2 North Dakota and had their best weekend of the year, and one of their best attended and well supported weekends in recent memory. On Friday the Black Bears came out and had three goals within the first 10 minutes of the game. After North Dakota got one on the board, Maine continued to pour it on, scoring 4 unanswered, including Gustav Nyquist’s first goal of the season.

On Saturday Maine fought through a tough first period before turning it on in the 2nd and 3rd. While each night they had the benefit of the majority of penalty calls, Maine cashed in on their power play to the tune of 30% (3/10) on the first night and 22% (2/9) in the series finale. By the way, 19 power plays made the games as awful to watch as it seems.

Runner up: Notre Dame

For the player of the week, we head out west and highlight Miami’s Andy Miele. Apologies for having the same POTW as INCH, but hey the guy had 9 points this weekend. My hands are tied. Miele had a goal on Friday night vs. Northern Michigan and then assisted on the other three RedHawk goals. It got even better on Saturday as Miami won 9-1 and Miele had another goal and 4 assists. After the weekend, Miele is tied for 4th in points per game with 2 (12 pts in 6 games), trailing only Brian Day (Colgate), Adam Presizniuk (Union) and his teammate Carter Camper.

Runners up: Carter Camper, Matt Frattin (North Dakota)
