Team, Player of the Week: WCHA Style

It didn’t take me too long to find this week’s team of the week. That belongs to Nebraska-Omaha. Not a bad ratio: one conference series, one team of the week nod. Although Mariucci isn’t exactly a tough place to play anymore, it can still be intimidating to go to an established power. But Omaha jumped out to quick leads both nights and fought off the Gophers 5-4 and 4-2. Friday night Omaha got 2 goals from Alex Hudson, including the game winner, and on Saturday it was Matt Ambroz’s turn for a game winner. John Faulkner also had a nice night on Saturday, with 29 saves.

Runner up: Boston College

The player of the week was a little tougher to settle on, but finally North Dakota’s Matt Frattin rose to the top. On Friday Frattin had a hat trick for the Sioux and on Saturday he had a beautiful coast to coast goal and an assist. Going back to last year, Frattin has 15 goals in his past 17 games. It appears his off ice issues are behind him, and just as easily it appears he looks like he could make the leap towards Hobey candidacy.

Runners up: Scott Greenham, Alaska; Cam Atkinson, Boston College
