It took until the 2nd day of a full slate of action to grab some major upsets….

Clarkson 6, St. Cloud State 2: In a shocking twist of events, Mike Lee replaced a pulled goalie rather than getting pulled himself after Dan Dunn allowed 4 goals and made just 10 saves. 6 different Knights scored, and Bryan Rufenach had a goal and 2 assists.

Maine 3, UConn 3: Garrett Bartus made 40 saves and Sean Ambrosie scored with 7 minutes left to erase a 2-1 deficit and give UConn a surprising tie against one of the best teams in the country.

Union 7, Sacred Heart 3: Kelly Zajac tied an NCAA record and scored 4 goals for the Dutchmen. It was a rough night for Union in net however as Corey Milan struggled, giving up 3 goals on 11 shots.

North Dakota 3, Alaska 1: This was the defense Sioux fans expected to see. It took Alaska 17 minutes to get off an even strength shot, and they finished with just 15 for the game. The Sioux won the Kendall Hockey Classic behind goals by Brett Hextall, Jason Gregoire, and Matt Frattin. Derek Forbort had the first points of his college career with a three point night.

Minnesota 5, UMass 4: A first period natural hat trick by Jay Barribal was almost erased as UMass scored 3 goals in the 2nd period. But Nico Sacchetti scored early in the 3rd to seemingly seal it for the Gophers. TJ Syner scored an extra attacker goal for the Minutemen, but it wasn’t enough as Minnesota got a hard earned sweep.
