The United States put forth a spirited effort last night, defeating Finland 6-2. Mike Lee got the start for the US and made 42 saves for a very solid effort. He had some poor rebound control, but the American defensemen were usually pretty good at clearing those rebounds.

Minnesota’s Jordan Schroeder had three assists in the game, which gave him the most all-time by an American in WJC play. The record was formerly held by Jeremy Roenick.

RPI’s Jerry D’Amigo scored twice, and the US got other goals from Kyle Palmieri, Matt Donovan, Chris Kreider and Danny Kristo.

The Kristo-D’Amigo-Stepan line was fantastic all night, combining the ability to go in the corners and do the dirty work with the ability to play flashy as well. This was exemplified in a play late in the 2nd when Kristo took the puck away from a Finn in the corner, walked out into the circle, and slid a beautiful backhanded pass to D’Amigo, who roofed it for the goal.

Boston College’s Chris Kreider had yet another impressive game, drawing praise from the TSN commentators. Kreider has had a tough go of things in his Freshman year at BC, but look for him to catapult into a strong second half.

The US takes on Sweden tonight in the semis.
