Preseason Top 16: Number 2

Last year Miami was a year or two away from really making a splash on the national scene. Or so everyone thought. Instead they rode wins over Denver, Minnesota-Duluth and Bemidji State to the national title game, where they eventually lost to national champion Boston U. Carter Camper is the key man back, but a group of players with NCAA Tournament experience are back to help lead the Redhawks to the promised land again.

Camper is the star for the Redhawks, as he was 4th in the CCHA in scoring with 20 goals and 42 points. But Andy Miele (15-16–31), Pat Cannone (11-24–35) and Tommy Wingels (11-17–28) complete an impressive Junior class. Miami has a solid group of scorers, and behind them a solid group of two way forwards.

In net, Miami features quite the two headed monster. Last year as Freshmen Cody Reichard and Connor Knapp were 10th and 14th in the CCHA in save percentage, but were 5th and 3rd in GAA, a tribute to their defense. Kevin Roeder has graduated, but Miami still returns an impressive group of defensemen. This year is a big one for Miami hockey. They got the NCAA Tournament monkey off their back last year, and look to win the school’s first title this year.
