Preseason All-Americans: 2nd Team
By Fetch
I probably won’t get the first team posted until later next week, but for now here is the second team.
Goalie: Kieran Millan, Boston University
Millan became the 2nd Freshman in 2 years last year to hoist the national championship trophy. He went 29-2-3 last year and led Hockey East with a 1.94 GAA. With 5 of his top 6 defensemen back, Millan could post even better numbers this year.
Defense: Patrick Wiercioch, Denver
Wiercioch had 12 goals and 25 points last year for the Pioneers. Wiercioch is big, can skate, and has great puck control. I think he could play for Ottawa right now, but he’ll have to wait a year.
Defense: Kevin Shattenkirk, Boston University
Shattenkirk was one of the best players for the US team at the WJC last year in Ottawa. The former first round pick of the Avalanche looks like he could be a 4 year guy for BU even though he has tremendous potential. For now he will provide the Terriers punch from the blueline.
Forward: Nick Bonino, Boston University
Bonino had 50 points last year for the national champs, and while he won’t have Colin Wilson and the rest of BU’s talent that has left, he looks like he could be the leader of their offense this year.
Forward: Carter Camper, Miami
Camper had 20 goals and 42 points as a Sophomore to lead Miami to the national title game. Camper is a small player, and doesn’t play defense too well, but he is a phenomenal offensive player with tons of potential.
Forward: Louie Caporusso, Michigan
Caporusso had 49 points and 24 goals to lead the Wolverines last year. With Aaron Palushaj gone, Caporusso needs to step up and be the leader of the Wolverines. Part of an Ottawa Senators farm system that is loaded with college talent, Caporusso will use his speed and puck skills to pile up the points this year.
