Weekly Rankings

Last weekend seemed like a warmup to this coming one. BU took care of business for the most part against Maine to remain atop our rankings, and Notre Dame dominated Northern Michigan to remain at #2. Some great ones are on tap for this weekend however as BU faces off against Northeastern, Michigan faces Ohio State and Yale hosts Princeton. Regardless of how those games turn out, next week’s rankings should feature a lot of movers and shakers.
1. BU (23-5-2) (14-5-2) No Change
The Terriers currently lead the nation in winning percentage, combined special teams and scoring margin.
2. Notre Dame (23-5-3) (17-4-3) No Change
Even though their top scorer is tied for 41st nationally in points per game, Notre Dame still has the 9th best scoring offense in the country. That’s depth people.
3. Michigan (23-9-0) (17-7-0) Up 1
Michigan still has the 2nd leading goal scorer in the country in Louie Capurusso.
4. Vermont (17-7-4) (12-6-3) Down 1
The Catamounts got jinxed a bit by us last week, and they face a potentially dangerous UMass-Lowell team this weekend (going for the reverse jinx this weekend)
5. Miami (18-8-4) (16-5-3) Up 3
The RedHawks have a seven game unbeaten streak, and have a good chance to get that to nine as they face Northern this weekend.
6. Northeastern (20-8-2) (15-5-1) Down 1
Absolutely can not wait for the Northeastern-BU rematch this weekend.
7. Yale (19-5-1) (14-3-1) Up 2
Yale as lost 1 (!) game in 2009. Scoring the amount of goals they do (3.52 pg) in ECAC Hockey is just incredible.
8. Denver (17-9-4) (13-7-3) Down 2
Denver has hit the skids a bit as of late, but they still have the 5th best offense in the country.
9. North Dakota (18-11-3) (13-6-3) Up 1
Hard to believe an 11 loss team is #9 in the rankings. It seems like every weekend I say the Sioux are going to dominate they play awful, and when I think they are going to play poorly they play awesome, so I’ll stick with saying they’ll play poorly. Also, we’d like to wish a speedy recovery to Derrick LaPoint.
10. Princeton (18-7-0) (12-6-0) Down 3
Princeton suffered what might not be a bad loss at all to St. Lawrence, but they are still 7th in the PairWise.
11. Wisconsin (16-11-3) (13-7-2) Up 1
The WCHA is a mess this year. There are no elite teams, and other than Michigan Tech no doormats either.
12. Cornell (15-6-4) (10-5-3) Down 1
Although his save percentage has taken a hit lately, Cornell fans shouldn’t fret, as Ben Scrivens is still second nationally with a .940 mark.
13. Minnesota (13-9-6) (10-8-4) Up 3
The Gophers have struggled as of late, but still feature the best 1-2 punch in college hockey in Ryan Stoa and Jordan Schroeder.
14. UNH (14-9-5) (10-7-4) Up 1
New Hampshire has now scored just 3 more goals than they have allowed on the season. I’m still skeptical.
15. Ohio State (18-10-4) (11-9-4) Down 3
Was this weekend’s series vs. Michigan State just a trap series? Bucks fans had better hope so as Ohio State faces off against Michigan this weekend.
16. Minnesota-Duluth (15-9-6) (9-8-5) ——–
Minnesota-Duluth is on the verge of the NCAA tournament (14th in the PairWise) so I figure it’s about time to put them in our rankings.
