Victor Mete Heading to the London Knights

Once again the London Knights have found a way to bring a talented hockey player from another team to their dominate OHL club, this time it’s Victor Mete from the Owen Sound Attack.

Mete was drafted this past year in the OHL priority draft by the Owen Sound Attack but didn’t really want to report to camp with the team leaning instead towards the NCAA route.

“He’s a gifted hockey player and he has lots of character.” ~GM Mark Hunter

He was attracting schools like Boston College,  Michigan and Notre Dame and was determined to head south to further pursue his hockey career. However, the London Knights may have flown in to save the day and land the top 10 defenceman.

The Knights have made a massive trade to land the defenceman sending 6 OHL priority selection picks to the Attack over the next 5 years.

The attention from the London Knights have helped Victor Mete’s “private issues” pertaining to playing in the OHL seemingly disappear as he seems ready to head to London. He had lined up a gig with the Junior A Newmarket Hurricanes if the NCAA route didn’t seem to pan out.  His agent had previously stated that there were 4 or 5 OHL teams that Mete and his family would be perfectly fine with and that certainly limited what the Attack could do trade wise. Of course the London Knights, who are the epitome of success at the OHL level just so happened to be one of those teams.

It’s a shame that young players can’t just be thankful to be drafted to any team and instead must manipulate the team that had faith and drafted him into trading him. However, at the end of the day the Owen Sound Attack will be just fine with 6 impressive draft picks heading their way. This marks the second year the Knights have been able to land a player from the opposition after they landed Max Domi last season. They failed to win the OHL championship and didn’t perform well at the Memorial Cup but they always have top notch talent within their grasp.
