Despite initial questions as to whether or not Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would attend the selection camp for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championships, things will go on as planned, and the young center will be at the camp next week in Calgary.

Shoulder injuries had put a possible damper on things, but that won’t end up getting in the way. Nugent-Hopkins underwent precautionary rehabilitation and an examination this week, clearing the way for his participation in the camp.

The only other thing standing in his way? A deal between the NHL and NHLPA; if that were to come to terms in the next few days, Nugent-Hopkins would of course be on his way back to the Edmonton Oilers. Barring that, he’ll make his way to Calgary on Monday for selection camp.

Last season with Edmonton, he scored 18 goals and 34 assists before being sidelined due to the shoulder injury.

Provided he makes the Canadian junior team as expected, this will be Nugent-Hopkins’ first time at the tournament, which kicks off December 26.
