World Juniors Taking Shape

The 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships, which begin later this month, are beginning to take shape. Finland announced its team roster on Monday, while Hockey Canada released a list of players who will attend camp next week in hopes of making the final cut.

The tournament will be held December 26 through January 5 in Ufa, Russia.

TEAM FINLAND

The Finland roster includes a number of recent NHL draft choices, including Esa Lindell (2012/3rd RD/74/DAL), Määttä (2012/1st RD/22/PIT) and Pokka (2012/1st RD/34/NYI) on the blueline.

Netminder Joonas Korpisalo is a third round draft choice of the Columbus Blue Jackets, while forward selection Teuvo Teräväinen was selected 18th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Some notable key points of the Hockey Canada list:

• Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is the lone player on the selection camp roster with NHL experience.

• Five players eligible for the 2013 NHL draft have been invited to the camp: Shinkaruk, Drouin, Lipon, MacKinnon and Monahan.

• There are six forwards from the QMJHL on the camp invitee list. Five from the WHL and nine from the OHL complete the forwards on the roster. Overall, the Ontario Hockey League is represented by 18 players, the WHL by 11 and the QMJHL by seven.

• Dougie Hamilton, Scott Harrington, Jonathan Huberdeau and Boone Jenner all won a bronze medal at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships.
