Gophers Hire Guentzel

Other than realignpalooza one of the bigger soap operas in college hockey has been the ongoing situation with the Minnesota coaching staff. Gopher fans had become increasingly frustrated with assistant John Hill, and the Gophers responded by letting him go and hiring  Omaha assistant, and former Gopher player and assistant, Mike Guentzel to be their associate head coach.

Guentzel actually has some experience coaching defensemen, having coached Hobey winner Jordan Leopold as well as several NHLers. John Hill, meanwhile, oversaw the stalled development of Cade Fairchild and Aaron Ness. Tough to criticize this move by Minnesota.
